Organ preservation is a matter of course in modern surgical procedures.
Fibroids are benign growths of the uterine muscle. They cause:

Even more elegant are hysteroscopic surgical methods. Here, the camera is inserted through the vagina into the uterus. Using very small instruments, fibroids can then be removed from "inside" without any incision or scarring.
However, if the fibroids are very large or if there is heavy bleeding, it may be necessary to remove part of the uterus. To avoid damaging the pelvic floor, this is done while preserving the cervix and the important round ligaments. The operation is performed either keyhole surgery via laparoscopy (LASH) or even vaginally.
