Depending on its severity, such a finding is also referred to as PAP IIID, III, IV, or PAP V, or CIN1, CIN2, or CIN3. The cause is a sexually transmitted infection with a known virus, the high-risk form of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The infection often occurred many years ago and can lead to cervical cancer via precancerous stages.
Timely diagnosis and therapy can mean a cure for the vast majority of those affected – even if a precursor has already become cancer: This means a completely normal life expectancy and very often the preservation of the uterus and the ability to have children.
Vaginal and vaginal opening dysplasia
However, other forms of dysplasia also affect the external genitalia and the vagina. The most common early symptoms are itching and burning, which are, however, very general and also occur with infections or the benign condition "lichen sclerosus".
Genital warts/condylomas
Viruses can also cause genital warts (condylomas), usually at the vaginal opening and anus. These growths are always benign, but highly infectious and sexually transmitted, and should be detected and treated early in both partners. We offer a special laser treatment procedure, which usually requires only one session.
Lichen and atrophy of the vagina
